Do SVOD film releases have what it takes to launch a toy line…

Over The Moon premiers 23rd October, and Netflix are sticking their neck on the line and partnering with Mattel to bring this to the toy aisle!

It’s an interesting move with retail in the state it is in to try something quite so brave, a new IP being launched on an SVOD channel has yet to deliver the L&M numbers to get most people excited.  The story is based on an old Chinese tale about a girl who builds a rocket to fly round the moon.  It is an American – Chinese co-production and this could well be the main objective, to really hit the Chinese market and focus on this increasingly lucrative territory.  However this too is a risky strategy as Disney will attest with Mulan’s less that great results in China.  We wait and see…
